University of Calgary Charges Pro-Life Students With Non-Academic Misconduct, Issues Warning, Repeats Threat of Expulsion

The University of Calgary has issued a formal warning to eight members of Campus Pro-Life over their use of graphic images on campus. The university stopped short of expelling the students, but repeated the threat of expulsion, promising stiffer sanctions in the future.

They plan to appeal the verdict.

“We did not break a single university bylaw or regulation, and so we will defend ourselves accordingly. We will also not cease exercising our rights to free speech just because they’re threatening us,” club president Alanna Campbell said.

“I’d rather be expelled as a principled person than graduate a coward.”

Last year, the University of Calgary tried to charge members of the club with trespassing on their own campus, but eventually backed down and dropped those charges. I bet officials are hoping they can stick to a non-academic misconduct charge and a warning, but these pro-lifers aren’t going to take that kind of bullying.

We haven’t heard the last of this one.
