The strange double standards of abortion

John G. Stackhouse has a thought provoking article about the strange double standards of abortion in the wake of the George Tiller murder. It’s a thought provoking piece that examines apparent contradictions on both sides, mostly out of frustration that we can’t seem to make any progress even on the areas where both sides would agree.

The recent assassination of abortionist Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas, has ripped the scar off the abortion debate in the United States and beyond. And as one reads and listens and watches the debate, one notices a disturbing pattern. Everyone deplores the vigilantism of Dr. Tiller’s slayer, yet double standards are evident on almost every side.

(Though, if it isn’t already obvious, to understand why it’s not hypocrisy for pro-lifers to consider abortion murder but condemn extreme violent measures to stop it, see what Robbie George had to say.)
